The Pumpkin Patch Hat

Hey guys!

It’s been a little while since I have posted (I went on vacation and have been a little lazy since I have gotten back).

I wanted to share this super cute pumpkin hat before Fall is over!

This pattern is written for a child’s size but can easily be modified for a baby or adult size.

The tools you will need to make this hat are:

  • Super bulky yarn (6 weight) in orange, brown, and green)
  • Circular knitting needles sizes US 11 and US 13
  • Scissors
  • Darling needle

Abbreviations used:

  • K knit
  • P purl
  • K2tog knit two together
  • P2tog purl two together

I will break it down into 4 sections, the hat, stem, leaves, and vine!

Note: please leave long enough tails for weaving and attaching the pieces

Hat

Start by casting on 42 stitches on your size US 11 circular knitting needles. Place marker and join in the round.

Rows 1-4: K1, P1 ( this will create ribbing for the brim)

Switch to size US 13 circular needles

Rows 5-23: Knit

Decrease

Row 1: K5 K2tog repeat

Row 2: K3 K2tog repeat

Row 3: K1 K2tog repeat

Row 4: K2tog

Bind off and weave in the ends

Stem

Cast on 2 stitches on your size US 11 needles

You will use the increase method knit front and back

KFB, P1, K1 For all the rows until approximately 3 inches (you will have created a triangle shape)

Now we will want to create the stem shape, for that watch the video below

Leaves (make two)

For the leaves, you will  start by casting on 3 stitches on your size US 11 needles

Row 1: P3

Row 2: KFB, K1, KFB

Row 3:  P all stitches

Row 4: KFB, K3, KFB

Row 5: P all stitches

Row 6: KFB, K5, KFB

Row 7: P all stitches

Row 8: K2tog, K5, K2tog

Row 9: P all stitches

Row 10: K2tog, K3, K2tog

Row 11: P all stitches

Row 12: K2tog, K1, K2tog

Row 13: P all stitches

Row 14: K2tog, K1

Row 15: P2tog

Bind off

Vine

For the the vine you will knit an i-cord

Using your size US 11 needles cast on 3 stitches

Row 1: K3

Row 2: Slip 3

Row 3: K3

Row 4: Slip 3

Repeat this process until you have reached your desired length. Below is a video tutorial to help with the i-cord.

To complete the hat you just need to attach all the pieces!
